In 2021 bestond het vloeibare collectief KONT uit Eindhoven 5 jaar. De optelsom zou je als volgt kunnen zien: 5 magazines, 6 magazine-lanceringen, 2 zines, vele slow dates en andere activiteiten, tientallen subsidieaanvragen, art book fairs en een hoop onuitgevoerde plannen dankzij corona.
Maar, dan mis je misschien toch het belangrijkste: de honderden deelnemende artiesten, de ontstane vriendschappen en samenwerkingen, de gevoelde generositeit, het harde werk, de oprechte betrokkenheid en de momenten van twijfel van allen die bij deze bijeenkomsten betrokken waren. Ter markering van dit vijfjarig vertoont KONT tijdens deze avond haar documentaire Staying With The Tides/In De Getijden Blijven. In deze documentaire duidt documentair filmmaker Floor Hofman op intuïtieve wijze de beweging die KONT de afgelopen jaren heeft gemaakt.
De documentaire fungeert ook als vertrekpunt voor nieuwe ontwikkelingen: KONT is volop in beweging. Griet Menschaert, oprichter, doet dit jaar een stap naar achter en draagt KONT over aan een volgende generatie. Dit is een onzeker proces, waarin persoonlijke en artistieke overwegingen langs elkaar schuren, en openlijk op tafel dienen te worden gelegd. Recentelijk is KONT met een groep van vijf kunstenaars in residentie geweest in de Kruisruimte in Eindhoven voor een maandlange intensivering van dit collaboratieve zelfonderzoek.
De komende tijd zal deze nieuwe generatie (deze avond vertegenwoordigd door onder meer Maaike Twisk) haar gezicht laten zien, en KONT een duwtje in een andere richting geven.
Tijdens deze vrijdagavond wil KONT de ruimte voor vriendschappelijke en kritische nabijheid die het in de afgelopen vijf jaren in Eindhoven heeft geprobeerd te creëren, naar Gent brengen. We beginnen de avond met een verfijnde, gezamenlijke maaltijd door Naom Cnaani en Hadas Youngrak SonNoam en Hadas, om vervolgens na een korte introductie door Floor Hofman en Griet Menschaert de documentaire te bekijken. Na afloop van de documentaire nodigen we je uit om met de andere aanwezigen te slow daten: trage, persoonlijke één-op-één ontmoetingen met een open einde…
Over KONT:
KONT is een vehikel dat zich inzet voor vriendschappelijke dialoog en samenwerking tussen sensitieve, kritische, betrokken, lokale en regionale artiesten uit alle disciplines en generaties. KONT is een veilige plek om elkaar al doende te leren kennen. Het zet vanuit (één-op-één) samenwerkingen in de praktijk aan tot het duurzaam overstijgen van het individuele belang. KONT’s hart ligt in Eindhoven.
Griet Menschaert ging in Gent naar de middelbare school, studeerde Germaanse Talen in Leuven en Beeldende kunst in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Ze verhuisde 20 jaar geleden uit het Pajottenland naar Eindhoven. In deze design en technologie georiënteerde stad miste ze een familie van gelijkgestemden. Zo werd zij oprichter van KONT.
Floor Hofman is een documentairemaker, ontwerper en gepassioneerd interviewer. Ze werkt samen met verschillende culturele en sociale groepen om verhalen te vertellen.
Maaike Twisk maakt onderdeel uit van de nieuwe generatie van KONT. Ze heeft een achtergrond in de beeldende kunst, is na haar afstuderen minder gaan maken en meer gaan lezen en studeert nu filosofie. Een noemenswaardige kunstpraktijk heeft ze niet meer. Wel is ze haar leergierige betrokkenheid met anderen blijven delen, middels app-berichtjes, ongevraagd advies en sporadische artistieke projecten.
Hadas Cnaani (geboren in Israël) woont en werkt in Antwerpen en heeft een holistische benadering van koken en eten. Ze doet kruidenwandelingen en is mindfoodness coach.
Noam Youngrak Son (geboren in Zuid-Korea) is afgestudeerd aan Design Academy Eindhoven en woont en werkt in Gent. Noam werkte mee aan KONT05 magazine en is non-binair designer en schrijver, tevens verbonden aan queer initiatief Bebe Books

2021 marked the 5 year anniversary of the fluid collective KONT. (Eindhoven, The Netherlands). The sum of these years can be considered as follows: 5 magazines, 6 events to launch these magazines, 2 corona-zines, many slow dates and other activities, dozens of funding applications, art books fairs and a load of unexecuted plans due to... But the most important is missing from this calculation: the hundreds of artists that participated, the friendships that emerged, the collaborations that took place, the felt generosity, the hard work, sincere involvement, and moments of doubt that all those that were involved have gone through. To mark this 5-year anniversary KONT will show her documentary Staying With The Tides during this evening at the Kunsthal. In the documentary, filmmaker Floor Hofman presents an intuitive interpretation of the movement that KONT has made during these past years.
The documentary serves as a starting point as well, as KONT is currently going through a big transition. Griet Menschaert, founder, will take a step back this year and is handing over the vehicle of KONT to a new generation. Personal and artistic considerations rub up against each other during this uncertain process, which means an open attitude is required of all the artists involved. A recent month-long residency in the Kruisruimte in Eindhoven took place to intensify this process of collaborative self-examination. The new generation of KONT (represented this evening by Maaike Twisk) will rise to the forefront in the coming months, and will nudge her in a different direction.
During this Friday evening KONT aims to open up a space for friendly and critical proximity, something we have been doing in Eindhoven for five years already, and hope to realize in Ghent as well. We start with a refined meal, by Noam Cnaani and Hadas Youngrak Son. After a short introduction by Floor and Griet we will watch the documentary. KONT is a vehicle that has committed itself to creating space for friendly dialogue and collaboration between sensitive, critical, involved, local and regional artists of all disciplines and generations. KONT is a safe space to get to know each other through doing. It encourages artists to transcend their individual interest by means of one-on-one collaboration. KONT’s heart lies in Eindhoven
Griet Menschaert went to high school in Gent, studied Germanic languages in Louvain and Fine Arts in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. 20 Years ago she moved from the Pajottenland to Eindhoven. In this design and technology driven city, she missed a family of like-minded individuals. Thus she became founder of KONT.
Maaike Twisk is member of the new generation of KONT. After receiving her bachelor in Fine Arts she gradually started creating less and reading more, and is now studying philosophy. She no longer has an art practice worthy of note. She does however continue to share her inquisitive involvement with the world, through text messages, unsolicited advice and occasional artistic projects.
Floor Hofman is a documentary filmmaker, designer and passionate interviewer. She co-creates with different cultural and social groups to tell stories.
Hadas Cnaani (born in Israel) lives and works in Antwerp and has a holistic approach to cooking and food. She hosts spice tours and is mindfoodness coach.
Noam Youngrak Son (born in South Korea) graduated at Design Academy Eindhoven and now lives in Ghent. Noam participated in KONT05 magazine and is non-binary designer and writer, also member of queer initiative Bebe Books.
